FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - THE PIVOTAL FRATINI POSTER

Previously unseen photographs of artist Renato Fratini — taken during the production of the James Bond From Russia With Love artwork — have surfaced during the preparation of the upcoming monograph The Art of Renato Fratini.

These images reveal how Fratini solved a major problem during the design of the poster: none of the supplied Sean Connery publicity stills matched the iconic straight-on pose that would become one of the most recognisable images in the Bond canon. To resolve this, Fratini took his own reference photographs, using himself to model the upper-body posture and suit line, while the firearm and hand position were adapted from a separate Connery still.

Only a small preview is shown here.

The complete set of reference photographs, the working comparisons, and the full analysis of how the final pose was constructed will appear exclusively in The Art of Renato Fratini (Ink Forge Press, 2025).
